Addenbrooke Lighthouse

Addenbroke Light Station

Located at the southern entrance to Fitzhugh Sound, Addenbroke Island lightstation marks the major shipping channel for all vessels seeking to avoid the rough waters of Hecate Strait. It is close to major commercial fishing areas and tourist destinations at Rivers Inlet and Kakai Pass, and a welcome sight to mariners for the past 100 years. In 1792 Captain George Vacouver and his crew visited here when they anchored the DISCOVERY and CHATHAM for repairs in Safety Cove on the Calvert Island side of the sound, just south of today’s Addenbroke Lightstation.
